ZIM: Logan Cup 1993/94 - Summary

Logan Cup Results 1993-94

In the preliminary round Mashonaland under 24 and Matabeleland
finished first and second on the strength of one outright win
each: the under 24`s beat the senior Mashonaland side by 10 wick-
ets and Matabeleland beat Country Districts by an innings. The
remaining matches were drawn.

The final was drawn, but Mashonaland under 24 held a considerable
first innings lead and therefore were the 1993-94 Logan Cup cham-
pions.

Three overseas players played in the competition in 93-94.
Mashonaland fielded Glamorgan batsman Steve James and Warwick-
shire apprentice Justin Inglis, while Mash u-24 included former
West Indies u-19 fast bowler Colin Joseph. Warwickshire batsman
Trevor Penney played for Mashonaland but was not considered an
overseas player, even though he is England qualified, since he is
Zimbabwe-born and has not played for England at any level.

The player of the season was Matabeleland captain Wayne James,
who headed the batting averages by a considerable margin and made
the highest first class score ever in Zimbabwe (215). This in-
nings was the only century made in the competition, although Mash
u-24 captain Grant Flower made 96 on no less than three separate
occasions!
