Zimbabwe vs England

A Very Brief History

Since Zimbabwe entered international cricket in 1980, England and Zimbabwe have played only 3 one day internationals, and no Tests.

There is a history before that however. Zimbabwe have toured England to play county teams and vice versa. Also, Graeme Hick left Zimbabwe to play cricket for England.

Hick's innings in the first meeting of the two countries, at the 1992 World Cup was one he would rather forget, bowled by Eddo Brandes for a duck as England crumbled to a shock 9 run loss. The memorable headline `England Plucked Stuffed And Roasted' bore testament to the fact that chicken farmer Brandes had stunned a nation.

Zimbabwe were to gain Test status the same year. The vote was not unanimous - England abstained.

The next meeting of the two sides was in Sydney in 1994. Once again, Zimbabwe held on for an improbable win with Grant Flower man of the match. England gained their revenge at last in the same tournament, with a win in Brisbane.
