South Africa 'A' in action from today

The South Africa 'A' team will meet the Sri Lanka Board President's XI in their tour opener at the SSC grounds, Maitland Place today. The visitors will be hoping to get maximum use of this 3-day encounter ahead of next week's first unofficial test match which begins on July 22 at the Asgiriya Stadium.

Colts CC opening batsman Sajith Fernando will captain the Board President's XI which also includes three other Sri Lanka caps Avishka Gunawardena, Sanjeewa Ranatunga and Upeka Fernando. The South African team includes three coloured players namely batsmen Loots Bosman, Ashwell Prince and medium pace bowler Henry Williams.

H.D.Ackerman is their most experienced player having represented South Africa in five test matches. In addition Derek Crookes, Herschelle Gibbs and Nicky Boje have also represented their country at test matches.

The Board President's XI: Sajith Fernando, Upeka Fernando, Sanjeewa Ranatunga, Avishka Gunawardena, Manoj Mendis, Malintha Warnapura, T.M.Dilshan, Amal Dalugoda, Anil Rideegammanagedera, Ruchira Perera and H.Rushdee. Reserves: Hemantha Boteju, Bradman Ediriweera, Indika de Saram.
