The Americas' Cricket Cup was played in Canada from August 5-12, 2000. 4 countries - the USA, Bermuda, Argentina, and the Cayman Islands joined hosts Canada in this event. Chris Tetley of the ICC was in Toronto for the duration of the tournament as the ICC Project Coordinator and worked with with CCA officials such Senior Co-ordinator Austin Ward for this competition.

Canada won the inaugural Americas Cricket Championships by beating Bermuda at G Ross Lord Park in Toronto. The weather was spectacular with lots of blue skies after the early morning cloudiness and drops of rain disappeared. The Canadian team must be congratulated on a fine team all round effort. Most teams were without several of their better players because of availability. In future Americas' competitions, we hope that the competiveness and goodwillshown here will prevail. Most teams also show some young player development and this augurs well for the future. We wish best wishes to all participating teams in their building and planning. ICC Trophy 2001 promises to be an exciting World Cup qualification event.

We are grateful that Andrew Eade, ICC Development Manager took time out of his hectic schedule for a brief visit to Canada and for his physical efforts in the Tournament. Special thanks are due to CCA Vice President, Karam Gopaulsingh who was the Tournament Director and with Chris Tetley and Clive Hitchcock formed our Technical Committee. Karam was as usual quiet, exemplary but outstandingly efficient in not only solving problems, but also in eliminating others which could later hurt if not addressed before they became critical. Thanks Karam and to the officials, suppliers and fans for doing Canada proud. Next time out we shall be even better. ICC Trophy 2001 Canada, book early. From Victoria and Vancouver British Columbia to our easternmost facilities we welcome the chance to display true Canadian hospitality.
Dr Geoff Edwards, CCA President
