LAHORE, Pakistan Dec 12 (AFP) - Pakistan progressed to 211-5 at
stumps as bad light disturbed the play on the third day of the
second Test against Zimbabwe here Saturday.
Dense fog and poor visibility delayed the start by 245 minutes
and both umpires held five inspections. The action finally
started an hour and 40 minutes after lunch but only 13 overs were
possible.
Yousuf Yohanna was batting on 46 and captain Moin Khan on 24.
Pakistan resumed at 184-5 and saw off the 54 minutes play adding
27 runs without losing any wicket.
Zimbabwe made 183 in their first innings.
``There was dense fog when we came in the morning and conditions
improved an hour after lunch,'' ICC match referee Cammie Smith of
West Indies said.
Seventy eight overs play was lost on the third day.
``We in fact offered light to both batsmen an over before tea and
they went off, it was early and light did not improve later,''
Pakistani umpire Mian Mohammad Aslam said.
Yohanna batted with confidence during his 161 minute stay and hit
seven well timed fours. His driving was simply superb, hitting
two glorious fours in one over from Mpumelelo Mbangwa.
Pakistan look for a substantial lead to force a win to square the
series but bad weather can hit their efforts and Test may end as
draw.
``Its unwise to play Tests in Lahore in this month, they should
have taken into account dense fog and bad light factor while
making the schedules,'' a meteorologist said.
Bad light cut short play by 16 minutes on first day and 35
minutes on second day. Weather permitting action on fourth day
will commence 30 minutes earlier.
``Its our bad luck that only 13 overs were possible, we
desperately want to have a result in our favor so that we level
the series,'' a pensive looking Pakistan coach Javed Miandad said.
Zimabawe won their first Test abroad when they defeated Pakistan
in Peshawar by seven wickets.
