Immediately after the Test series, South Africa play Australia in a 7 match One Day series starting in Johannesburg on 22nd March. The series will be extremely valuable for both sides with a view to building a winning side for the 2003 World Cup in South Africa.

Australia didn't qualify for the final of the VB Series back in January, and seem to intend to use this series as a rebuilding exercise. Significantly, there is a new captain in Ricky Ponting, and a reshaped side without Steve and Mark Waugh.

South Africa acquitted themselves well in the VB Series, eventually triumphing 2-0 in the best of three final against New Zealand.
