KARACHI, Feb. 17: The President of Pakistan, Mr Farooq Ahmad Khan Leghari, is expected to announce a new cricket set-up during this week, most probably on Monday.

According to information gathered by this correspondent from the Federal Capital and the cricket headquarters, the documents will be ready for signatures by the time the third and final Test between Zimbabwe and Pakistan is over.

The suggestions and proposals on certain constitutional amendments, submitted by the Ad hoc Committee to President Leghari a month after taking over from Chief Justice (Retd) Nasim Hasan Shah's Board early last year, have been finalised and approved by the concerned authorities.

The suggestions include: Change in the name of the Board of Control for Cricket in Pakistan (BCCP) to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB);

Change in the format of the Board from President, Secretary and Treasurer to Chairman, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Treasurer with powers equally divided between the CEO and the Treasurer. The Chairman of the Board will, however, only be normal and chair the Board meetings;

The Chief Executive will be the Secretary of all the Board Committees, including the Selection Committee;

There will be a three-year term of the Selection Committee and that too as an independent body. The Committee, under the new set-up will, henceforth, not seek approval of the team from the Council. However, if the Council felt that the selection Committee was not fulfilling its duties properly, it can abolish the Selection Committee;

Continuation of the Ad hoc Committee members in the PILCOM regardless of whether they are in the new set-up or not. The understanding to this effect has been given by the President himself;

Scrutiny of bogus clubs throughout Pakistan;

Withdrawal of Council and General Body membership from the establishments not having their own stadia. Those organisations will only be awarded playing rights.

The indications given by sources regarding the appointment of the three posts are that Majid Khan's name has been finalised as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Arif Abbasi's name has been approved as Treasurer by President Leghari.

As far as the name of the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board is concerned, sources say that President Leghari has kept the name to himself. However, Altaf Bhayoo is being tipped to earn the job.
