SOUTH AFRICA v AUSTRALIA 1993-94
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1995

At Cape Town, April 6 (day/night). Australia won by 36 runs. Toss: Australia.

Australia reduced South Africa's lead to 4-3 with one to play. They made a dreadful start, losing Hayden and Jones for ten runs. But Taylor and Mark Waugh added 123 for the third wicket, and a rapid unbeaten 40 from Border took them to 242 for six.

Hudson's 62 gave the crowd some hope of a win, provided that local hero Kuiper could cut loose. By the time he came in, the required run-rate was too high; an unbeaten 38 off as many balls showed what he might have achieved higher in the order. Warne bowled beautifully after just three expensive overs in the previous game.

Man of the Match: M. E. Waugh.
