CricInfo365: Healy's World Record

Rick Eyre in CricInfo365
5 October 1998

When Ian Healy caught Wasim Akram from the bowling of Colin Miller at 2.11pm local time at Pindi Stadium, Rawalpindi on 4 October 1998 he took his 356th dismissal in Test matches. This put him ahead of Rodney Marsh as the most successful Test wicketkeeper in history in terms of career dismissals.

Healy's dismissals have been taken in a Test career which began, also in Pakistan, on 15 September 1988 at National Stadium, Karachi. Rameez Raja was his first victim. Healy has appeared in 104 Tests since his debut, missing only one during that time.

While Healy now holds the world record for total dismissals, he still needs 12 catches to equal Marsh's world record of 341. His 25 stumpings are fifth on that all-time list (Bert Oldfield first with 52), and realistically he will probably only gain one more place on this list when he catches Wasim Bari (27).

Healy's ratio of 3.43 dismissals per Test ranks eleventh among keepers with 50 or more career dismissals. Marsh averaged 3.70 per Test while the leader on this table is the West Indies' Courtney Browne (4.62 in 13 Tests).
