PESHAWAR, Oct 19: Pakistan batsman Ijaz Ahmad nearly missed the second Test here after he had refused to bat at one-down position.

According to informed sources, Ijaz had told the team management that he would bat down the order.

``Ijaz argued that if he is made to bat low down the order in one-day internationals, why was he being forced to play at the pivotal No 3 position,'' sources said.

However, the team management convinced Ijaz and also made him understand the team requirement and his performance in Tests at No 3 spot.

Ijaz, dropped from the first Test, staged a splendid come back when he made a career-best 155 with a flurry of beautiful shots.
