KARACHI, Oct 25: Aqib Javed was recalled in the 14-man team for Dhaka's mini World Cup which started in the Bangladesh capital on Saturday. The side was announced by chief selector Wasim Bari at the National Stadium on Sunday.

Pakistan play the opening match of the knock-out tournament on Oct 29 against the West Indies.

Aqib Javed was the vice-captain of the Pakistan team that defeated India 4-1 in the Sahara Cup at Toronto, Canada, last month.

He was, however, ignored for the Test series against Australia.

Three changes were made in the team that last played one-day internationals against India.

An injured Mushtaq Ahmad and Mohammad Zahid, and Abdul Razzak were left out. They were replaced by Arshad Khan, Shoaib Akhtar and Wasim Akram.

``Mushtaq Ahmad confirmed to us that he was not fit for the Dhaka tournament. Mohammad Zahid has a groin injury which he suffered during the second Test,'' chief selector Wasim Bari said.

``Waqar Younis was not considered because he felt he has not fully recovered from the elbow injury,'' the former Test captain said.

Akram returns to the National team for one-day competition after missing the Sahara Cup because of his county commitments. Shoaib Akhtar didn't go to Toronto as he was selected in the Pakistan A team that participated in the Commonwealth Games that coincided with the series against India.

Arshad Khan, who has been selected in the Pakistan A team that leaves for New Zealand on Oct 31, has been included in place of Mushtaq. After the Dhaka tournament, he will join the team in the Kiwiland.

While the selectors did not consider three players because of injuries, they have retained at least two players who are not fully fit. Inzamam-ul-Haq has an injured foot while skipper Aamir Sohail has a severe chest infection and high temperature.

No vice-captain for the Dhaka tour was named. However, it was being anticipated that either Aqib Javed or Moin Khan will be announced as Sohail's deputy on Monday.

The team is:

Aamir Sohail (captain), Saeed Anwar, Shahid Afridi, Ijaz Ahmad, Salim Malik, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Yousuf Yohanna, Moin Khan, Wasim Akram, Azhar Mahmood, Aqib Javed, Shoaib Akhtar, Arshad Khan and Saqlain Mushtaq.

Coach: Javed Miandad
Manager: Azhar Zaidi.
