Electronic scoreboard passes test

The newly-installed electronic scoreboard at the Bangabandhu National Stadium, which will be used in the Wills International Cup, was tested for the first time yesterday evening.

Two technicians of the South African company Display Solutions Inc Gideon C Ackerman and Raymond D Castles expressed their complete satisfaction to The Daily Star about the board saying that it was fully ready for operation.

Both the new floodlights and the electronic scoreboard will be formally inaugurated by Finance Minister S A M S Kibria today at 5:30 pm.

According to the two Capetown-based technicians, it will have a number of interesting features including the speed-check of balls delivered by the bowlers.

``Speedster '98'', an specially designed scanner, will be used to measure the speed of the deliveries.

Besides, catch phrases such as good catch,''oh! no!; '4 runs,', 'great six' etc. and animation will provide an unique experience for the fans.

It may be mentioned that, Display Solution Inc. have installed electronic board at the GABBA, Lord's and all grounds in South Africa.

WorldTel Official due today

Meanwhile, John C Bodnar, a senior producer of WorldTel, arrives today on a day's visit.

Nearly 60 officials, engineers and technicians of the WorldTel will work during the tournament, said Sajjadul Alam Bobby, the convenor of the BCB's Electronics Media sub-committee.

The WorldTel production team will start arriving from October 20 with the largest group of 28 members expected on October 22.

Traffic Advisory

Spectators of the Wills International Cup wanting to bring their own vehicles to the Bangabandhu National Stadium, will have to enter the stadium through the southern gate commonly known as the Mosque Gate. Afterwards they will have to park at the Paltan Maidan.

According to press release of the Security, Gate, Law and Order Sub-committee yesterday, cars with stickers will enter through the western gate and will park on the northern side of the general car park at the Paltan Maidan.

No vehicles will be allowed to enter through the eastern and northern gates. They will be the only exit points.

Besides, no cars will be allowed to travel outside the stadium during the tournament other than ones bearing stickers.

Carrying of any unathorised materials including explosives into the stadium will strictly be prohibited.

BCB will also establish a few 'May I Help You' booths in the galleries to provide necessary medical support in case of emergencies.
