Irish Cricket Round-up
Gerry Byrne - 10 August 1999

  • Mike Hendrick and the Irish Cricket Union have agreed by mutual consent to terminate his contract as Coach to the Irish Team. His contract was due to espire at the end of the current year but he will be leaving the post at the end of the current week, following the completion of a UK tour by an Irish Development XI which is on this week. The only Irish match left for this season is the annual First-class game against Scotland.
  • A disciplinary committee of the Irish Cricket Union today announced that Stephen Smyth of the Brigade Club has been suspended from representative cricket for five years and from all club cricket until the end of next season. This followed an incident which occurred in the team hotel at the end of the second of the two first class matches during the South African Academy XI tour.
