INDIA v PAKISTAN 1997-98
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1999

At Dhaka, January 14 (day/night). India won by eight wickets. Toss: Pakistan.

A comfortable victory, with nine overs in hand, gave India a 1–0 lead in the best-of-three finals. Tendulkar starred again, smashing 95 from 78 balls, with five sixes and six fours. He shared an opening stand of 159 in 25 overs with Ganguly, and on the way he became the youngest player to pass 6,000 runs in limited-overs internationals, at 24 years 265 days. Earlier, he had also taken three wickets, though the bowler who did most to restrict Pakistan was Robin Singh. Most of their top-order batsmen made starts, but no one got to 40.

Man of the Match: S. R. Tendulkar.
