Manoj - Man of the match

In the drawn cricket encounter between Wesley and St. Peter's played at Campbell Park where the bat dominated over the ball, Manoj de Silva was adjudged man of the match for his fine century in Wesley's first-innings.

Conditions were ideal for bright cricket with the Campbell Park pitch tailor made for batting. The Peterites in reply to the Wesleyites first innings score of 224 for 8 declared, batted enterprisingly to get past Wesley's total to declare at 300 for 8, forty five minutes before tea.

The Peterite innings was marked by useful contributions by skipper Jerome Fernando (44), Mahes Perera (43) and 'ninety two run' eighth wicket partnership between Dilshan Rupesinghe (52) and Jehan Jayasuriya (61) not out off spinner Pubudu Chandrasekere had figures of 3 for 81 for Wesley.

Wesley batting for the second time were given a fine start by openers Rakhitha Wijetunge and Kuri Rodrigo who put on 93 for the first wicket and Wesley were 166 for 3 at the close, with Rakhitha Wijetunge making an attractive 64. The presentation of the award to Manoj de Silva was made by Fr. Camillus Fernando, the prefect of Games of St. Peter's College.
