Sri Lanka Schools: St Peter's content with draw
Richard Dwight - 7 March 1999

St. Peter's were content on indulging in batting practice for the 'big match' next week than on setting St. Anthony's College a victory target and this cricket encounter ended in a listless draw at Bambalapitiya yesterday.

St. Anthony's continuing from their overnight score of 40 for 3 in reply to St. Peter's first innings score of 207 fell to the off-spin of Dilshan Rupasinghe to lose wickets cheaply to be 78 for 8 - but a purposeful 9th wicket partnership of 51 runs, between Samson Burke and Nuwan Senarathmudali, enabled St. Anthony's to get up to 158 all out.

Rupasinghe had the fine figures of 6 for 39, ably supported by Suranga Pinto 3 for 34 for St. Peter's.

Enjoying a first innings lead of 51 runs, St. Peter's who were 116 for 6, batted on to the close to be 193 for 6 with Malin Silva and Gavin Lodewyke batting well again, for both to be unbeaten on 52 and 45 respectively.

Scores:

St. Peter's 207 and 193 for 6 (M. Silva 52 not out, G. Lodewyke 45 n.o., S. Gunesekera 42, S. Pinto 17, S. Basnayake 2 for 7, P. Jayawardene 2 for 56).

St. Anthony's 158 (S. Burke 42 n.o., S. Pinnaduwa 23, N. Nizam 37, N. Senarathmudali 20, P. Jayawardene 12, D. Rupasinghe 6 for 39, S. Pinto 3 for 34).
