Haryana beat Services by an innings
Raj Kumar - 9 November 1999

Gurgaon: Fine bowling by left arm spinner Pradeep Jain (4 for 50) and Feroz Ghyas (3 for 82) enabled Haryana to score an innings and 94-run victory over Services on the third day of the North Zone Ranji Trophy league match here on Monday.

Services resumed their second innings at 31 for one. Overnight batsmen Narender Singh and C D Thomson (85*) played with cool heads and added 62 runs for the second wicket when Narender Singh (41) misjudged an inswinger from Vineet Jain and was bowled when the total was 72. He stayed at wicket for 120 minutes and hit seven boundaries in his knock of 72 balls. Harish Bhaskar was also bowled by Vineet Jain without opening his account. Skipper Sanjay Verma (7) did not last long as he was removed by Feroz Ghyas at 82.

Pankaj Maitrey (52) and Thomson then added 68 runs for the fifth wicket. Out of this, 52 runs were scored by Maitrey before he was sent back to pavilion by left arm spinner Pradeep Jain. He faced 110 balls and hit four of them to the ropes. Sarabjeet Singh (25) stayed at wicket for some time but was also removed by Pradeep Jain, who then claimed two more wickets in quick succession.

Syed Javed (47) who came at No 11 showed courage and played a splendid knock and added 68 runs for the tenth wicket with Thomson who with 85 not out played a sheet anchor role. Javed hit seven boundaries and a six in his knock of 53 balls. Thomson, in his stay of 437 minutes during which he faced 303 balls, hit seven boundaries and a six. Services were all out for 308.
