Donald injury worry for South Africa
CricInfo - 1 April 2001

Allan Donald has emerged as an injury doubt for the remainder of the Third Test between West Indies and South Africa in Barbados.

The South African fast-bowler strained a hamsting avoiding a bouncer while adding 132 with the bat in partnership with Shaun Pollock on the second day of the Test. He then aggravated the problem by bowling on the third day, forcing him to leave the field for treatment.

South African physiotherapist, Craig Smith, admitted the injury was a concern, and suggested that Donald may not be risked for the remainder of this match in an attempt to allow him to recover prior to the Fourth Test in Antigua.

"Allan's got a tight and slightly sore right hamstring," Smith revealed. "As a precaution with a second innings still to come here and the Fourth Test in Antigua in a few days time, we don't want to make it worse.

"I said to him when he went out in the morning not to make it any worse and that if it did deteriorate it would be better just to sit this innings out or sit the day out," Smith continued. "We're being a bit more cautious than normal.

"We'll be doing a lot of treatment over the next two days. Hopefully it's more of a stiffness kind of soreness as opposed to a strain kind of soreness because he was able to move in the field without much discomfort."
