Former Wellington and New Zealand fast bowler Heath Davis did some damage to Stokes Valley's hopes of taking out the Sovereign National Club Championship at Cornwall Park in Auckland yesterday.

Davis, now playing for the host club Cornwall took 4-12 as Stokes Valley were dismissed for a paltry 98 in 28.3 overs. Matthew Walker was the only batsman to show any defiance on the scoreboard with 30 runs. Cornwall passed Stokes Valley's total in 31.5 overs but for the loss of only three wickets.

Cornwall now go to the top of the table and can expect to cement their position as they play lowest placed Hamilton Eastern Suburbs today.

East Christchurch-Shirley had a great day with the bat while scoring 239/7 against Hamilton Easts. Canterbury representatives Marcel McKenzie (53) and Carl Anderson (52) led the way while down the order Ryan Burson chipped in with 39 not out before picking up three wickets for 21 runs at Hamilton Easts were all out for 140.

East Christchurch-Shirley and Stokes Valley share six points in second place with Napier Technical Old Boys who yesterday beat North East Valley in a very tight contest. NEV scored 206/8 in their 50 overs and a battling innings from Craig Findlay, who ended 59 not out, helped NTOB get up in the last over to take the win.
