Cornwall continue on their winning way at home
Lynn McConnell - 6 April 2001

Cornwall maintained its hopes of a home town success in the Sovereign National Club Championship with a win over Hamilton Eastern Suburbs at Cornwall Park today.

Still unbeaten in the tournament, Cornwall dismissed the Hamilton side for 114. Santosh Ranchod took three wickets for 15 runs while Richard Morgan backed his efforts with two for 16.

Cornwall took 39 overs to get to its target but with Charlie Ewart guiding the team with his 42 not out, the side got home with four wickets to spare and 11 overs left.

East Christchurch-Shirley's bid for a place in the final was helped when they scored 203/8 against Napier Technical Old Boys. Michael Papps scored 84 and in reply Napier could manage only 130 in reply with Carl Anderson taking three wickets for 13 and Peter Broom three for 27.

Stokes Valley, the other contender for a finals berth was a convincing winner of its game with North East Valley. The Dunedin side were all out for 125 as Andrew Penn took four for 13 and Kerry Calnon three for 12.

Stokes Valley then really poured it on with the bat by scoring 129 runs for two wickets in 14.4 overs. Shane Battock scored a fine 63 to carry the side home.
