Home team to play Stokes Valley in national club final

Wellington club champions Stokes Valley won the right to contest the final of the Sovereign National Club Championship with Cornwall in Auckland when the home team beat Christchurch champion East Christchurch-Shirley.

Stokes Valley and East Christchurch-Shirley were evenly placed going into the penultimate round by Cornwall proved too strong for the Cantabrians.

East Christchurch Shirley scored 176/6 in 48 overs, Aaron Klee top scoring with 33 not out, while Cornwall replied with 177/1 with Paresh Vallabh scoring 87 not out and Aaron Barnes 54 not out.

Stokes Valley, meanwhile, beat Napier Technical Old Boys. Batting first, Stokes Valley scored 229/8 with Kyle Wealleans scoring 66 not out and Andrew Penn 32. Kerry Calnon's medium pace bowling was utilised to good effect by Stokes Valley as he took four wickets for 25 runs to give Stokes Valley the win by 27 runs.

North East Valley and Hamilton Eastern Suburbs will repeat today's game tomorrow when they play off to try and avoid the wooden spoon. Hamilton Eastern Suburbs won today's game by four wickets.
