Autumn Rain dampens end of tour
Vic Isaacs - 9 April 2001

Two days of constant rain has dampened the end of Hampshire's South African adventure. Although the players were able to enjoy some outside practise at the lovely Constantia Uitsig ground, the scheduled matches had to be postponed for fear that the underfoot conditions would cause injury.

Reflecting on the tour in general, Director of Cricket Tim Tremlett was upbeat about the visit. "In hindsight," said Tremlett, "We should have had a few days practise before jumping into the competitive Winelands Tournament. It has however been extremely beneficial for all concerned. We have achieved so much more than we would have back in England."

Dave Robinson, Hampshire chairman of cricket, was also of the opinion that this had been a good exercise. "The present conditions in England, means that outside practise is impossible. Although we have had some autumn rain, in general the weather has been excellent. The team have also benefited from this get together, renewing the bonding that is an important part of team spirit."

The team and small band of supporters return early on Wednesday morning.
