Sri Lanka hit by loss of Kaluwitharana
Charlie Austin - 9 April 2001

Romesh Kaluwitharana has been forced to pull out of the ARY Gold Cup after the sudden death of his mother. He has already arrived in Sri Lanka.

The withdrawal of the wicket-keeper batsman is a major blow for the Sri Lankans. He top scored with 63 in their 16-run defeat against Pakistan yesterday and scored an unbeaten century in the final match of the recently concluded three-match series against England.

Kumar Sangakkara is expected to take over the gloves. Tillakaratne Dilshan could also keep wicket if required. No replacement has been announced so far as Kaluwithrana is expected to return to Sharjah after the funeral.
