The final which was postponed from last year was eventually played last Saturday at the Haynes Oval cricket ground. This game also marked the commencement of the 2001 season.

The finalists were St Agnes Cricket Club and Paradise Cricket Club and St Agnes retained the trophy by defeating Paradise in grand style.

St Agnes won the toss and sent Paradise into bat. Paradise were soon in trouble against the St Agnes opening attack and were skittled out for only 69 runs with the only batsman to get into double figures being Gary Brathwaite who made 11 runs. The bowlers for St Agnes who did the damage were Mike Cahill (3-11 from 8 overs), Shanaka Pereira (3-26 runs in 8 overs), the captain of St Agnes, Hesketh Dean (1-1 from 1 over) and young Calvin Netta (1-13 runs in 2.2 overs).

St Agnes Cricket Club then went into bat and clinched the win in just under 7 overs without loss - Narindra Ekanayake 39n.o. and Orel Garrett 19n.o. Umpires: Dave Toney and Steve Maybury.

The Bahamas Cricket Association League championship should get under way this coming weekend.

The previous weekend the Bahamas Cricket Association played host to one of cricket's greats, Gordon Greenidge, West Indies opening batsman in its world championship team of the 70's & 80's.

Greenidge's stature as an International Cricket Council Ambassador brought him to the Bahamas to promote cricket.

In honour of his visit the Association sponsored a match between the President's team and the Vice President's team selected draft style from the top players of the local cricket clubs. This served as an observational springboard for Mr. Greenidge to share the benefit of his expertise and experience with the local players.

In a keenly contested match the Vice President's team won the toss and elected to bat. In the allotted 40 overs they accumulated 206 runs for 8 wickets.

The top scorers were Robin Permashwar (Commonweath CC - 68), Lee Melville (Commonwealth CC) (47) and Donovan Morrison (Tbirds CC) (20 runs).

Bowling for the Presidents team the promising youngster O'Neal Levy of Paradise CC took 3-37 and Neverson Worrell of Paradise CC, Narindra Ekanayake of St Agnes CC and Shanaka Pereira of St Agnes CC each took one wicket.

The Presidents team then went to bat and pulled off a sensational win by scoring 210-8 (38 overs) winning by 2 wickets with 12 balls remaining.

Their highest scorers were Shanaka Pereira (St Agnes CC) (55), Gary Brathwaite (Paradise CC - 44), Everod Peart (Police CC - 26) and Neverson Worrell (25 n.o.).

Bowling for the Vice Presidents team, Gary Campbell (Police CC) (3-28) and Lee Melville (Commonwealth CC) (3-49).
