Cuthbert Gordon Greenidge visits Belize too!

The first round of the Belize National Cricket Competition concluded on Saturday, March 31. The second round immediately follow with regular matches on April 7.

Sunrise, who is undefeated, leads zone one with a total of 12 points. Eddison Parks is the star for Sunrise. He leads the team in both batting and bowling. Surprise is in second place in this zone with 10 points, having lost their only match to the seemingly untouchable Sunrise.

Jerome Wade, who batted 64 runs for Surprise at their last outing and who is the newcomer on the team, is giving a good account of himself to complement batsman Garett Banner. Clarence Anthony is just brilliant on the bowling.

In zone two, the competition is heated! Wicked Eleven, Brilliant and Tropical Disturbance each has 10 points. Edmond Flowers of Tropical Disturbance has top scored in most of the matches. He has also bowled the most wickets for his team. Eldon Wade is the point man for Brilliant and is the only cricketer to score a century (102, not out) in this year's competition. Wicked Eleven, led by its captain Ben Robinson, has several all-around players, which make them the team to watch in the second round. Their only defeat came from a much weaker team, which was a surprise to many.

In other cricket news, former West Indies Test cricket batsman, Gordon Greenidge, has just completed an ambassadorial visit to Belize. He held coaching sessions with primary and secondary school cricketers, who were all very pleased to meet him.

A representative of the Belize National Cricket Association attended a meeting of Associations of the Americas from April 3 to 6 in Antigua to discuss the development of cricket in the Americas and to establish the Cricket Council of the Americas. It is hoped that ICC will match their desire to globalize cricket with appropriate funding to develop cricket this region.
