Hughes relinquishes selection post
John Polack - 12 April 2001

Former Australian captain Kim Hughes has relinquished his position as Chairman of Western Australian selectors.

Along with Hughes, long-time selector Ron Bowe has also ended his association with the four-man panel which chooses the state's Pura Cup and Mercantile Mutual Cup teams.

Following appointments made by the Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA)'s International and Interstate Cricket Committee today, Allan Edwards will assume stewardship of the new-look panel. Wayne Hill and Doug Harris retain their positions, and Dennis Baker - who represented both Western Australia and Tasmania at interstate level - becomes a state selector for the first time.

Hughes had been the panel's Chairman for each of the last two seasons, during which time Western Australia has finished first and second in one-day competition and third and fifth in the first-class arena. Neither he nor Bowe - whose departure comes after thirteen years of continuous service - sought re-appointment to their positions.
