16 April 2001

Wapda upset the odds to defeat PIA by four wickets in the National One-day Departments Cricket Tournament match at Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot on Sunday. Yasir Hameed, who hammered 74 off 102 deliveries with six hits to the fence, and Mahmood came together in a face-saving fifth wicket partnership of 158 in 31 overs after PIA had lost four wickets for 20 runs.

All-rounder Kamran Hussain was pick of the bowlers with fine figures of four for 41 in nine overs.

Rizwan Malik was WAPDA's batting hero. He struck nine boundaries in making 80 off 114 balls before he was run out by Ghulam Ali.
