Cricketers Prepare for Exciting Match
ACT Cricket - 17 April 2001

Australian cricketers arrive in Canberra today in preparation for the Prime Minister's XI versus the ATSIC Chairman's XI, to be held on Thursday at Manuka Oval. The two teams begin training tomorrow in readiness for what promises to be an entertaining and exciting match.

Team captain of the Prime Minister's side Steve Waugh has said that the match will be an exciting game. "I think it's a really important game...it will be great for families to get along, there should be some good cricket played."

"It should be fantastic." said ATSIC Captain Jason Gillespie.

Unfortunately, two members from the Prime Minister's team, Justin Langer and Shaun Marsh, have reluctantly withdrawn from the game, to their regret. Justin Langer's wife Sue gave birth to the couple's third child on Friday, however due to complications with the delivery, Justin will remain at home to care for his wife and children. Shaun Marsh will also be unavailable, as he has a severe sinus condition which will prevent him from playing on the day.

Both teams will feature talented cricketers from around the country, and celebrities will also play for each team. Team members will be appearing at Tuggeranong Hyperdome on Wednesday to promote the match and sign autographs. Play will begin at 10am, with gates opening at 8.30 and the coin toss at 9.30am. It will be a fun day for all involved.

Tickets are available from Ticketek at $2 for concession and $10 for adults.
