Waugh may miss rest of Ashes series
CricInfo - 4 August 2001

Steve Waugh has confirmed that he will miss the Fouth npower Test in the Ashes series.

The Australian captain underwent a diagnostic scan after sustaining a calf injury in the second innings of the Third npower Test at Trent Bridge.

Waugh faced only one ball before he was taken off on a stretcher after sustaining the injury to his left leg when setting off for a quick single.

He will take no further part in the match and, it is feared, he may have played his last Test cricket in England.

"He's had a scan, which has confirmed a tear in his left calf," an Australian team spokesman said.

"It will receive ice treatment over the next 24 hours and we will know more in due course."

No announcement on a replacement has been made, though with several Australians excelling in county cricket there are plenty of options.
