Progress being made to reunite Mashonaland cricket
ZCU - 6 August 2001

Zimbabwe Cricket Union President, Peter Chingoka advises that progress is being made in the efforts to reunite Mashonaland Cricket Association and the newly formed Mashonaland Cricket Union.

A joint meeting, brokered by Alwyn Pichanick, life President of the MCA, and Mr Chingoka, took place on Thursday 2 August 2001. "It was a very fruitful meeting where both parties expressed a deep desire and commitment to work together towards the betterment of cricket and to exert immediate endeavours to stem any further harm being endured by Mashonaland cricket", observed Chingoka.

Representatives of MCU, Steve Mangongo, Macsud Ebrahim and Ozias Bvute presented their concerns and proffered their set of ideas of a new-look, fully representative and all-inclusive Mashonaland Cricket Association.

The MCA delegation, which was led by Acting Chairman Steve Cochrane and supported by Anthony Brooks and Brian Erlam, immediately embraced some of the proposals and will revert early next week formally on all matters raised, following cunsultations with the remaining members of the MCA.

Chingoka concluded, "We are confident that there is sufficient commitment and conviction from all concerned to speedily shape a positive and united approach. This should lead to one provincial association determined to move onward and upwards"
