Peters hat-trick has England reeling
CricInfo - 7 August 2001

Left-arm seamer Kenroy Peters took a hat-trick for West Indies to rip the heart out of the England middle order in the Under-19s Test Match at Leicester.

It needed a resilient sixth-wicket stand between Nottinghamshire's Bilal Shafayat (33) and Sussex wicket-keeper Matthew Prior (56no) to restore some semblance of respectability to the England innings.

By the end of the second day, England were 207 for seven, having dismissed the tourists for 278.

Peters, one of 12 members of the West Indies squad who have played Busta Cup cricket, began his hat-trick when he had Worcestershire's Kadeer Ali caught behind off the final ball of one over.

Peters, who hails from St Vincent, then trapped Joseph Sayers and Gordon Muchall lbw with the first two deliveries of the next over.

It was only the second hat-trick in the 99-match history of under-19 Tests involving England; the first was taken by former England spinner Richard Illingworth against the West Indies at Northampton in 1982.

In his second spell Peters could have added to his haul but he had Prior missed at slip and James Tredwell put down by 'keeper Carlton Baugh.

They were expensive misses as the pair put on 73 for the seventh wicket before Peters bowled Tredwell for 33 to leave England on 204 for seven and give Peters a final analysis of four for 39 off 20 overs.
