Warwickshire appoint academy director
Media Release - 9 August 2001

Warwickshire County Cricket Club are pleased to announce the appointment of Roger Newman as Director of the new Warwickshire Cricket Academy from September 1.

A former capped player for Devon and batsman/wicketkeeper for West Bromwich Dartmouth in the Birmingham & District Cricket league, he has been involved with cricket development for many years at Warwickshire, Oxford University and King Edwards School, Birmingham.

Dennis Amiss, Warwickshire's Chief Executive said: "We are delighted Roger has accepted this key position, and with his extensive knowledge and experience in cricket, education and business we are confident the Academy is in a safe pair of hands."

"This is an exciting challenge for me," said Roger Newman, "and I am looking forward to developing the Academy in line with the Chief Executive's and County Cricket Club Committee's vision to take Warwickshire back to the very top over the next 5 years."

Warwickshire are one of the first County Clubs to be awarded Academy status by the ECB as part of their World Class Performance plan.
