Butcher apologises for midnight bar visit
CricInfo - 11 August 2001

Mark Butcher has been reprimanded following a late night visit to a bar during the Third npower Test against Australia.

The Sun newspaper reports that Butcher was at Nottingham's Bar Café at around midnight after the second day of the Third Test, having been dismissed for a single earlier in the day.

An ECB spokesman commented: "We do not consider this appropriate behaviour for an England player during a Test match and Mark has been reminded of his responsibilities in this regard."

A statement released by Butcher's solicitor read: "Mark accepts that his behaviour was inappropriate and sincerely apologises for any embarrassment caused."
