It hasn't taken long for Ryan Hinds to demonstrate the benefits from the Shell Cricket Academy of St George's University.

His left-arm spin earned him six wickets on Saturday, but more importantly, his maiden Division 1 hundred yesterday transformed a shaky ESA Field Pickwick overnight position into an honourable draw.

Hinds went the first thing yesterday morning when Pickwick were still trailing by 99, with eight second innings wickets in hand.

By the close, he was still to be conquered by a Banks team that thoroughly dominated the opening day.

His unbeaten 151 off 211 balls included 11 fours and five sixes, mainly straight and mainly of the first innings destroyer Anderson Sealy.

I am relieved. I thought that I was disciplined. I have to thank my teammates for the support and also belief in God, Hinds said.

I don't like to lose. I had to come out and fight. Playing against (Winston) Reid and Anderson is hard. I just had to be positive and believe in myself.

The support from his teammates came from wicketkeeper Rondell Yearwood (34), with whom he added 103 for the fourth wicket, and captain Mike Matthews, whose contribution was 31 in a fifth-wicket stand of 87.

Hinds might have had the luck of three chances to wicketkeeper Wayne Rueben on 51, 91 and 105, but that should not take away from his effort.
