Dawn PCB media manager bungles again
16 August 2001

The efficiency and competence level of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) media manager was exposed once again when this time he bungled up with the date and venue of a forthcoming international match.

A PCB, press release issued by media manager Khalid Butt Wednesday, said Bangladesh's three-day match will be played between Sept 24 and 26. In the same statement, it is said that Bangladesh's Test against Pakistan in the Asian Test Championship will be played at Multan between Aug 29 and Sept 2.

Mr Butt is probably living in the past as the three-dayer is scheduled between Aug 24 and 26. To further complicate matters, the PCB announced Tuesday that the match has been shifted to UBL Sports Complex while the press release says it would be staged at the National Stadium.

The PCB changed the venue after scheduling a day/night fixture between Pakistan and Showbiz XI on Aug 24 to raise funds for the rain victims.

According to the laws of the game, the pitch being used for a first- class match has to be covered after the day's play and the covers cannot be removed until a couple of hours before the resumption of play the following day.

The PCB is already under-fire because of a loopholed and unprofessional attitude of its media advisors who are currently issuing press releases instead of guiding the top hierarchy of the board how to deal and tackle the media on ticklish issues.
