Dawn One-dayers replaced by two-dayer
16 August 2001

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has finally realized that squad for the forthcoming Asian Test Championships cannot be named after analyzing the performance of its players in limited overs games.

The PCB, which announced to stage three practice one-day games, Wednesday cancelled the second match scheduled for Aug 17 and instead announced to hold a two-day match on Aug 20 and 21. The selectors have not announced the teams for the two-day game but it is understood that Wasim Akram, Moin Khan and Mushtaq Ahmad will be included in one of the squads as their fitness and form is under scrutiny and not their abilities as players.

But while the PCB has decided to hold a two-day match, they need to tighten the players as well since the attitude of some in Tuesday's match was quite casual. Besides, it should also be conveyed that it will not only be the trial match of the three discarded players, but will also be the fitness test of everyone under consideration for the Bangladesh Test.

Unfortunately, the idea to host two-day or a three-day match should have come from the selectors rather than the media which has been accused to triggering controversies at the beginning of any series/tournament.
