The New Zealand selection panel of Sir Richard Hadlee (chairman), Ross Dykes, Brian McKechnie and Denis Aberthart, has today named the following 12 players to contest three One-Day Internationals against Pakistan next month:

Lou Vincent (State Auckland Aces)

A further two players will be named in early September to take the squad to its full complement of 14 players.

Left out of the squad from the one-day series in Sri Lanka earlier this month are Adam Parore and Grant Bradburn.

Chairman of selectors, Sir Richard Hadlee, said neither of those two players had been excluded from selection but the panel would watch with interest the New Zealand 'A' side's performance in India before adding the final two players.

"Clearly we will need to add a wicket-keeper to the squad and the commentators will rightly surmise that decision is between Adam Parore and Chris Nevin.

"Adam was not the only senior player to disappoint in Sri Lanka - and he has not been ruled out of the one-day side for Pakistan - but the selectors want to give further consideration to Chris Nevin as a wicket-keeper and top order batsman. Nevin is currently in India with the 'A' side and we will watch his form with great interest.

"Similarly Grant Bradburn is not out of the selection frame for the Pakistan one-day series, but the panel will wait and watch the performance of Brooke Walker, Glen Sulzberger and Paul Wiseman, who are all in India with the 'A' side," he said.

Hadlee said the selectors had been very disappointed by the team results in Sri Lanka and by the lack of performance from some of the senior players.

"The make-up of this side was hotly debated as the performance levels from some of our more experienced players was below par in Sri Lanka. It is time for the senior players, particularly, to front up and take responsibility for winning games through their individual contributions to the side," Hadlee said.
