Bangladesh's one Test-class opening batsman, Javed Omar has the talent and technique to succeed, though a glut of one-day internationals have not helped his development. Complaints that he scores his runs too slowly, however, were offset by an historic Test debut, when he carried his bat for 85 not out, only the third player in history to do so in his first match. He underlined his limpet-like qualities with a painstaking 80, compiled in 100 overs, in his sixth match, against Zimbabwe at Chittagong. Andrew Miller
