Beating the bat

Overall, the English and Australian strike bowlers have found the edge a similar number of times. However, the Australians beat the bat more often than their English counterparts (6.8% is the average amount for the series). However, when Glenn McGrath took his best figures of the series (5 for 49 in the first innings at Trent Bridge) he beat the bat 13% of times. Likewise, Jason Gillespie took 3 for 52 at Edgbaston and beat the bat 15.7% of times. In contrast, when Darren Gough beat the bat most frequently (9.3% in the first innings at Edgbaston) he only managed 3 for 152. Andrew Caddick, has beaten the bat 5.1% so far, Dominic Cork 4.9% and Craig White only 2.2%.
