Don Bradman: Two of the top five innings of all time and five in the top 100  ©Allsport
Introduction by Steven Lynch,
Wisden's Database Director

The Wisden 100 is generated by the new ratings system from Wisden Online. Unlike conventional ratings, which usually assess players' entire careers or recent form, the Wisden 100 considers every innings in Test cricket - over 54,000 of them - and every bowling spell as well. A complicated set of factors is applied to each innings, and the greatest batting and bowling performances in Test history emerge. Fittingly, Don Bradman sits on top of the batting list, with an innings of 270 against England at Melbourne in 1936-37. Hugh Tayfield, South Africa's accurate offspinner of the 1950s, is a surprise No. 1 in the bowling table.
