Bradman, Bird and bluster

No play this morning, to the delight of England supporters, who had been praying for unseasonal monsoons in Yorkshire followed by a major earthquake in south London.

Instead, on Channel 4, a long and engrossing interview with Sir Donald Bradman, who I realise I'd never heard talk before, like the Queen Mother. And lo! he sounded just like Richie Benaud. (Morning everyone.)

Better still was Dickie Bird telling us of his father, who walked 38 miles to see Bradman and 38 miles home again. It was only five miles to the ground, but he had a shocking sense of direction...
