Where the runs came for Butcher and Hussain

Mark Butcher and Nasser Hussain's partnership of 179 was England's best for any wicket this summer. Australia bowled a consistent line to both, but the in-form Butcher was able to score wherever the ball landed. Hussain, lacking match practice, barely scored from anything pitched outside the off stump, and found it easier to work away balls pitching on the middle and leg stumps - 30 of his 55 runs came from such deliveries. Australia's bowlers have had trouble adjusting their radars all summer - six of England's eight 50-plus stands in the series have featured a right-hand/left-hand partnership.
