England v South Africa 1905-06
Wisden CricInfo staff - August 31, 2001

Played at Capetown, Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, March 24, 26, 27.- Though the rubber had already been decided the fourth test match excited a great amount of interest. Thanks to the bowling of Blythe and Lees, and the batting in the last innings of Fane, the Englishmen won by four wickets, thus doing something to restore their reputation. The latter half of the game was full of excitement. South Africa led on the first innings by 20 runs, but when they went in for the second time only White could withstand the fine bowling. He hit up his splendid 73 in an hour and three quarters, his figures including a 6 and ten 4's. Wanting only 159 to win, the Englishmen looked to have an easy task, bu they lost Crawford at 5, Warner at 20 and Denton at 34. Fane saved his side, playing masterly cricket for two hours and a half and taking out his bat.
