Dawn PCB wants MCS on lease
29 August 2001

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is negotiating to get the control of newly-built Multan Cricket Stadium (MCS) on lease.

This was disclosed here by PCB chief Lt. Gen Tauqir Zia while talking to journalists at the Multan airport soon after this arrival ahead of the Pakistan-Bangladesh Test match scheduled to be held at MCS (Multan Cricket Stadium) from Wednesday as part of the Asian Test cricket championship.

Multan Cricket Stadium has cost over Rs 180 million and can accommodate 30,000 spectators, which arguably makes it country's second biggest ground after National Stadium, Karachi.

Wednesday's Test will be first at this venue although Multan's Qasim Bagh had the distinction of staging the first-ever Test in this city known for saints against West Indies in 1980-81.
