Cricket in Vanuatu

Pierre Chillia's 2001 Development Officer's Report

Pierre Chillia December 5, 2001

JUNIOR CRICKET DEVELOPMENT

The development of Junior Cricket in this country is the single most important factor that will ensure that Cricket will prosper in the future. It is therefore very important that we use our best efforts to encourage youngsters to take up the game.

I am proud with the way the schools and even the communities participated in the Clinics and even the Kanga Leagues that were organized. There were a number of positive aspects of 2001 Kanga Cricket in Vanuatu. These include -

  • Equipment donated by the ICC.
  • Cricket as Demonstration Sport during Provincial Games.
  • Hand-outs of Kanga Cricket Equipments to Primary Schools and even Secondary Schools such as Onesua Presbyterian College.
  • Sponsorship of Westpac Banking Corporation and its continuous sponsorship for 2002.
  • There were a number of very good teams and individual efforts during 2001.
  • The honours went to 10 years under Freshwater and Vila East, the 11-13 years Mele Weaners and Steelers.
  • The visit of John Boulos from NSWCA who worked with me.
  • Level 1 Coaching Course.
  • Teachers/Parents in-service.
  • Kanga Cricket on Children's Day – 24th July.
  • Cricket news being broadcasted on air.
  • Visit to Onesua Presbyterian College

    VOLUNTEERS

    I would like to thank the Senior VCA Players and the National Squad Players and the Teachers and to mention, the parents who give in their time and efforts for helping out in the Programs that were carried out this year. I am grateful the way everybody helped out in such ways.

    SPONSORSHIPS

    Westpac Banking Corp. has played an important role in sponsoring the Kanga League that saw Primary schools around Port Vila and communities participated. I am proud to announce their continued sponsorship for 2002 Kanga League. Thanks to Tim Scala, GM of Westpac Banking Corp.

    AVIS has also played an important role in providing transport from time to time.

    2002 DEVELOPMENT PLANS

  • Under 15 Championships between Secondary Schools and Communities;
  • Inter Secondary School Championship;
  • Inter School Kanga League
  • Teachers/Parents In-Service Clinics;

    To finish, I would like to thank the Committee especially the President for their support and encouragement throughout the Year. I would also like to thank the BDO staff.

    Finally, Thanks to all volunteers and friends of Cricket and especially the school kids for their participation in the 2001 Development of Junior Cricket and wish everyone all the best for the 2002 season.
