The Lagos League kicked off with a sole match between last season's runners-up GCI Old Boys (GCIOBA) and Federal Government College Warri Old Boys(FGCW). The 40-over match was won decisively by GCIOBA by a margin of 122 runs.

Batting first GCIOBA compiled 203 runs all out in 38 overs with skipper Okon Ukpong's 56 runs being the top score for the day; he was ably supported by D.Adekola who got 49 runs. Okoruwa of FGCW finished with figures of 3 for 61 whilst Uyi Akpata had 2 for 19 runs.

FGCW collapsed at 81runs all out with Uthe Ogbimi being their top-scorer with 26 runs for his effort. S.Alade took 3 for 16, Taiwo Odeniyi had 3 for 24 whilst Tayo Okusanya got 2 for 19.

The next two matches to be played are Cosmo taking on Rocks while Howzat Pioneers engage FGCW who play their second match.

The season was ushered in officially yesterday (Sunday 2nd December) with the NCA season's opening match taking place at the St Gregory's College Grounds. A symbolic match between two selected sides was featured along with presentation of cricket equipment to some schools in the Lagos area.

Dr John Abebe also made a keynote address about his plans for cricket during his administration to enthusiasts who graced the occasion.

The cricket season in Kaduna State kicked off over the week-end with a match between Crocodile Club of Kaduna and a visiting British High Commission team.

Crocodile Club emerged victorious in the 25-over match played at the Murtala Muhammed Square, Kaduna by 25 runs. The host team posted 188 runs for 5 wickets in its innings with Dahiru Enesi top-scoring with 97 runs not out.

The British High Commission responded with 163 runs for 3 wickets with John Lemon scoring 80 runs not out.

The Crocodile Club has taken the initiative of creating grassroots awareness and participation in the game by the provision of equipment to four schools in Kaduna and Abuja.

The Nigeria Cricket Association (NCA) following the refusal of the Tafawa Balewa Square Investments Limited to vacate the Pavillion and grounds of the Tafawa Balewa Square cricket oval has taken the matter to the Nigeria Police Force.

The Minister of Defence with the authority of the President had handed over the pavillion and grounds to the NCA in July after it had been taken away for over 30 years by previous military governments.

The Police has given the illegal occupants up to today to vacate the grounds or face forceful eviction by law enforcement officers.
