Kent County Cricket Club today announced that Ian Brayshaw is to take up the newly created post of Director of Cricket. He has accepted a two-year contract and will begin his work at the Club in February 2002.

Brayshaw played first class cricket for Western Australia between 1960 and 1977 and was part of the all-conquering Western Australia team which won six Sheffield Shields between 1967 and 1978. He was Vice Captain to John Inverarity for much of that time and, as an all-rounder, he scored 4325 runs and took 178 wickets.

Since retiring from first class cricket, he has made a substantial contribution to Western Australia cricket as a senior administrator and worked for a time setting up the WACA Cricket Academy. More recently he has been involved with the media, broadcasting as a sports journalist on Channel 10 in Perth.

Commenting on his appointment, Ian Brayshaw said: "I am delighted to have been offered this exciting new role. Kent has a long history of strong traditions and achievements and I very much hope that, with my background in Australian cricket, I can help with the development of the game within the County as well as success on the field at the highest level."

The role of Director of Cricket for Kent will build on the excellent work already started by Club Coach Chris Stone and will encompass all aspects of cricket development within the County as well as overseeing the performance of the County's team at the highest level. The blueprint for this role was developed following advice from John Inverarity last summer and the Club has been successful in reaching agreement with him to return on a regular basis over the next two years to continue his involvement with the development of the game in the county.
