Scotland join National League
Wisden CricInfo staff - December 12, 2001

LONDON (Reuters)
Scotland will play in the English one-day League in 2003 on a three-year trial basis, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said.

Scotland will join the 10-team division two and play their home matches in Edinburgh or Glasgow, the ECB statement said.

ECB chief executive Tim Lamb said: "I am sure that Scotland's admission will be warmly welcomed by all cricket followers both north and south of the border.

"As well as adding a new dimension to the League, this decision will be of great help to Scotland as they seek to gain full ICC one-day international status."

Scotland's admission, the ECB said, would depend on the planned league structure being confirmed by March next year and Scottish Cricket's assurance in September that it is ready to compete in the following year's competition.
