An awesome batting display from Chris Gayle saw West Indies cruise to an eight-wicket win over Zimbabwe and book themselves into Wednesday's LG Abans final against Sri Lanka.

Gayle's 79-ball 85 contained 17 fours and one huge six, lofted high over mid-on off Gary Brent to bring up his fifty. He put on 106 in a second-wicket partnership with Ramnaresh Sarwan, of which Sarwan contributed only 14.

Gayle was eventually dismissed courtesy of a diving catch by Henry Olonga in the covers off Doug Marillier (121 for 2). Sarwan (30 not out) and Ryan Hinds (16 not out) knocked off the remaining runs with little trouble.

Earlier Zimbabwe were bowled out for 154 – and only managed to reach three figures thanks to a fighting 57 from Heath Streak, who rescued his side from the depths of 53 for 7. Streak perished in typically positive manner, trying to hit Corey Collymore out of the ground in the closing overs, only to be caught by Pedro Collins at long off (113 for 8)

Streak received stout support from the lower order with Travis Friend (22) and Gary Brent (19 off 20 balls) showing admirable resilience. But the damage had been done previously, when Zimbabwe's batsmen had crumbled, with only Andy Flower (21) registering double figures.

The bowling hero for West Indies was Darryl Brown, making his one-day international debut, at the age of 27. He took 3 for 21 with his medium pacers, including the wicket of Flower. Both Collins and Colleymore chipped in with wickets, before Streak's effort gave a measure of respectability to another grim day for Zimbabwe.
