Bees stop play
Wisden CricInfo staff - December 17, 2001

There was a bee-zarre ending to Camberwell Magpies' match in Melbourne club cricket against Carlton on Sunday. A swarm of bees descended on the ground, and the match was abandoned shortly after tea. The invasion was bad news for Camberwell batsman Matthew Elliott, the former Australian Test opener. Elliott was only able to play because Victoria's Pura Cup match against South Australia had ended a day early, and had reached 170 when the swarm hit.

Elliott's knock continued a purple patch for him at club level - his last eight innings for Camberwell have been 99, 133, 102, 58, 128, 56, 139 and 170 not out, a total of 885 runs at an average of 126.42.
